The Bunkhouse

The Lazy Crofter Bunkhouse may be a small hostel but what it offers is definitely not on a small scale, set amongst powerful mountains and coastal scenery commanding spectacular views over the North Atlantic Ocean.  This true wee gem is owned and managed by Robbie and Fiona Mackay who pride themselves on the warm atmosphere and genuine highland hospitality on offer to all visitors.

Facilities

The Bunkhouse is tastefully decorated and can sleep a maximum of 20 persons. Since Covid we have restructured our rental model and no longer rent individual bunks in shared, mixed dorms. We now offer private rooms to our travelling friends. This reduces overall numbers of people in the hostel, providing guests with more space and privacy. We offer large and small private bunkrooms this still offers the benefits of shared self-catering kitchen, bathrooms and living areas, providing the space to socialise with other guests and the opportunity to make new friends and meet like minded souls. Enjoy the social atmosphere of the kitchen, lounge and garden and retire to your private room for a peaceful nights sleep. All beds are made fresh for guest arrival with all bed linen is provided, bath towels can be rented for a small charge. The fully equipped self catering kitchen makes catering for yourself easy and enjoyable. The Bunkhouse is located close to The Durness Village Shop which is fabulous with great take-out offerings for breakfast, as well as an impressive affordable selection of fresh food for the most discerning of needs as well as a vast beer & wine selection. The Bunkhouse is conveniently positioned a short walk to local pubs, restaurants and the most amazing local beaches.

Facilities also include a drying room, which allows you to at least start the day dry! This is equipped with an american style washing machine. Full central heating ensures we can always determine the temperature inside if not outside. Powerful hot showers with plenty of piping hot water provide a welcome refresh after a day on the hill. The local village store and Post Office are both less than 100 metres away. The store is extremely well stocked and competitively priced. The bunkhouse is directly on all public transport routes servicing Durness. Bicycle storage for cyclists is available, as is ample parking. Secure storage lockers mean your valuables are safe at all times.

Private Bunkroom are extremely small (we don’t pretend otherwise) sleep single traveller or a couple. Room Rate from £50.00 per night.

Private Rooms Suitable for 2 – 8 Persons (4 Bunkbeds). Room Rate from £120.00-£200.00 per night.

Exclusive Use of Facility from £500.00 per night.
